About Becky Allen-Powell

I grew up writing stories on my hand-me-down 1920s big, black typewriter on one end of the dining room table while my journalism-instructor mom typed lessons at the other end. However, by the time I got to college, I said, "Nothing could make me go into the same field as my mom," so I studied Spanish. I spent a wonderful six months living in Barcelona, Spain, for a junior-year-abroad program, where I developed my love of languages and other cultures. By the end of college, going into the same field as my mom didn't sound so bad, so I tried to get into Spanish publishing. What I ended up with was an English-language editing job at Christian Life magazine, where I learned the ropes from well respected editors in Christian publishing. Today as the senior editor at Pioneer Clubs, I love to make up games, write special events, explain the difference between "they're," "there," and "their" (but only if asked!) and share the love of Jesus with kids. In my spare time, I enjoy camping, kayaking, scrapbooking, traveling and going to the pet store to pet cats, which I can't own myself because I'm allergic to them.

50% of all children are in troubled, broken or single parent families
48% of children […]
